We have all walked by that salon or spa on campus during a busy week longing for a bit of pampering and relaxation. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be difficult to find the time and money to treat ourselves, so why not try an at home spa day?
You can do it in the privacy of your own home using supplies that can be found right in your kitchen. You could even get a group of girlfriends together and make a night of it.
Check out these exclusive Her Campus tips for your hassle-free day of relaxation.

Next, create your own hair mask. This can get a bit sticky, so make sure you are fully prepared before beginning this process.
You will need…
- A paintbrush to apply the hair mask (you can always dunk your hair or use your hands instead, a paintbrush just makes for less of a mess).
- A headband and hair tie to keep the oils off your face.
- A towel to drape over your shoulders and rest your hair on so the mask does not get on your clothes.

- Ingredients for the hair mask: Olive oil, honey, and coconut oil have worked wonders for me. Mix together a tablespoon of olive oil, a tablespoon of honey, and two tablespoons of coconut oil. Here are some other options for hair masks you could try:
After putting all your hair mask ingredients into a bowl, heat them for about 20 seconds so that they mix well. Then, lather your hair in the mask using your hands or a paintbrush.
Embrace the stickiness!
For the most glow and best results, douse your hair with as much of the mask as you can. Then, leave it on for a good amount of time. Setting your timer for about 15-30 minutes is a safe bet, and while you’re waiting, you can make a homemade face mask.
Washing off a goopy face mask with a steamy washcloth is one of the best feelings. Not only is it satisfying, it also makes you feel like a new woman with your beautiful, glowing skin afterwards.

Get these things together before you start:
- A steamy wash cloth for removing the face mask.
- A headband and hair tie (to keep your hair back).
- A paintbrush to apply the face mask. Not only will it feel wonderful and soft on your face, but it will also help to easily and evenly spread the mask (hands will work too, though!).
- The ingredients for your homemade facemask: Spreading gooey, icky egg all over your face might sound really disturbing, but egg facemasks have been found to be extremely effective because your skin just absorbs all the protein they provide. Try mixing one egg white and a teaspoon of lemon juice.
With your hair held up in a sticky mask for at least fifteen minutes, you’ll have plenty of time to prepare and apply your face mask. Mix your ingredients well and use your hands or a soft paintbrush to apply the mask. Let this sit for about 10 minutes or until the mask has dried. While you are waiting, use hot water to prepare a steaming washcloth. When your timer goes off, gently wipe off the mask with your hot towel to reveal your dazzling skin.
Now that your face has been cleansed, it’s time to wash out your hair mask to expose your deeply conditioned hair and use an all-natural, refreshing body scrub.

Here’s what you’ll need to prepare your homemade exfoliating scrub:
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- ¼ cup of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of honey
Mix together all your ingredients and try out your new body scrub after rinsing out your hair mask. If you have leftovers, keep them in your shower for future use— exfoliating your skin regularly is a great habit to get into. Exfoliating not only removes dead skin cells but also helps to eliminate blackheads and everyday acne.
